Nature’s Unwanted Buffet
Sarada superba, a critically endangered fan-throated lizard, is native to the laterite plateaus of Maharashtra’s northern Western Ghats in India. Males are known for their brilliantly coloured throat fans and back crests, while females lack these features. This photograph captures a pregnant female that mistakenly swallowed a discarded plastic wrapper, believing it to be prey. What should have been a simple meal became a dangerous encounter with human waste. As plastic pollution spreads into natural habitats, even the smallest creatures face serious threats. This image serves as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect vulnerable wildlife and ecosystems.
