Backlit Splash
During the dry season in Valparai, Tamil Nadu, receding water levels along the Sholayar Dam backwaters give way to long grasses on the sloped banks. To remove heavy soil from the roots before feeding, elephants submerge and vigorously thrash clumps of grass in the water, a deliberate cleaning behavior captured here in backlit motion through rising winter morning mist.

About the photographer
A builder by profession, I have been pursuing wildlife photography since 2006. Through my lens, I aim to document intimate animal behaviors and visually tell compelling stories about the fragility of our planet’s ecosystems and the wildlife that depend on them.
