The Last Flight
A bird’s final flight is recorded not in the sky, but on glass. The outline left behind is the imprint of feathers that struck a window at full speed—a silent signature of one of the leading human-caused sources of bird mortality. Millions of birds die each year in window collisions, victims of reflections that disguise glass as open sky or habitat. This fleeting mark disappeared with a simple swipe, but its message remains: what is invisible to us can be fatal to birds, and simple bird-safe window treatments can save millions of lives.
