Plenty to Go Around
Under the cover of darkness, a Himalayan brown bear is seen scavenging at a garbage dump in the high altitudes of Ladakh in India. After emerging from months of hibernation, these bears, driven by hunger, often forage in open garbage dumps where they encounter plastic, poultry scraps, discarded medicines, and household refuse. While it seems like there is plenty to go around, these bears unknowingly ingest plastic and other toxic substances, many of which leave detectable traces in their fecal matter. There is a growing threat that human-generated waste poses to these bears’ health and their natural feeding behaviour.

About the photographer
I am a wildlife cinematographer telling natural history films for broadcast and feature length films across India. I am usually glued to my cinema camera and rarely pick up a still camera during a production. In the past year, I have been trying to find balance between video and stills, whenever time allows and when a frame deserves to be frozen in time.
