Moth Galore
Ecologist Vincent Romera photographs moths landing on a light trap in Phnom Kulen National Park, Cambodia, during a yearlong biodiversity inventory carried out by the conservation organisations ADF Kulen and HUMY. Nearly 400 species of moths were recorded over two nights, probably only a third or a quarter of all moth species to be found on the mountain. Standing 400m above the surrounding agricultural plains, the Kulen range is a green ‘island in the sky’ whose forests are an important stopover for migratory bird species yet face high logging and hunting pressures.
