Guardians of Hiva
I took this photo in my hometown, Wadarai, which is in the state of Maharashtra, India. While strolling around the village looking for subjects for macro photography, I suddenly spotted Indian stingless bees (Tetragonula iridipennis) sitting on the inner edge of their oval-shaped hive. The sight was quite captivating. Whenever a bee arrived from outside or left from inside, these bees would make way for it and immediately complete their circle again. I was able to capture this moment in a photograph.

About the photographer
I’m an amateur photographer. I started out doing wedding photography on the side, but my passion for nature and wildlife eventually drew me to nature photography. That led me to travel extensively across India, chasing the perfect shot. I’ve won several national and international awards, and my work’s been showcased in plenty of exhibitions. I’ve also put up photography exhibitions to raise awareness about environmental conservation – that’s something close to my heart. And this journey’s still going strong.
